Ackroyd & Harvey - Stranded and The Ecocide Trial
WARNING
The works of Heather Ackroyd and Dan Harvey sound the alarm on the effects of climate change on the plant and animal world. Stranded condemns the death of animals due to climate change. The pair created this piece in 2006, turning the corpse of a stranded whale into a sculpture, a tribute to endangered wildlife. The Ecocide Trial is a fiction introducing the concept of ‘ecocide’, the human destruction of an ecosystem. The artists’ film is a mock trial lasting 4 hours. In the dock are the heads of two multinational firms whose pollution has wreaked havoc on the environment.
The aim is to recognise ecocide as the fifth international crime against peace.
